Speaking from experience - flash tutorial

I am trying to find the best way to animate the words for my moving image piece.  I have never used Flash but I am aware you can animate in it.  I have found a couple of tutorials which I am going to try out.

Speaking from experience - 3D text tutorial

If I am to produce a moving image using text I need to know how to produce 3 d text in Photoshop.  On researching I first of all found this tutorial which is basically creating several layers to use blending options on.

On further investigation I found that CS5 has a 3D text option.  As I only have CS4 at home I am going to experiment with the former until i get to college

Speaking from experience - Possible song for moving image

A particular line out of Ian Brown's song FEAR really resonates with me in relation to the course:
 'For Everything A Reason'

As the year draws to a close I can see how carefully thought out each element and module of the course is, including Critical Studies.  I think I want to put this across to the students that the Course is by design not accident this coupled with the idea of leaving your Ego at the door and experimenting.

These are the lyrics to the song, the lines I have highlighted are particuarly relevent to me and the course.

F.E.A.R.
For each a road
For everyman a religion
Find everybody and rule
For everything and rumble
Forget everything and rememberFor everything a reasonForgive everybody and remember
For each a road
For everyman a religion
Face everybody and rule
For everything and rumble
Forget everything and remember
For everything a reason
You got the fear
You got the fear
You got the fear
You got the fear
You got the fear
F.E.A.R. (You got the fear)
F.E.A.R. (You got the fear)
F.E.A.R. (You got the fear)
F.E.A.R. (You got the fear)
Final eternity arouses reactions
Freeing excellence affects reality
Fallen empires are ruling
Find earth and reef
Fantastic expectations
Amazing revelations
Final execution and resurrection
Free expression as revolution
Finding everything and realizing
You got the fear
You got the fear
You got the fear
You got the fear
You got the fear
F.E.A.R. (You got the fear)
F.E.A.R. (You got the fear)
F.E.A.R. (You got the fear)
F.E.A.R. (You got the fear)
(Fantastic expectations
Amazing revelations
Finding everything and realizing
For everything a reason)
F.E.A.R. (You got the fear)
F.E.A.R. (You got the fear)
F.E.A.R. (You got the fear)
F.E.A.R. (You got the fear)
You got the fear
You got the fear
You got the fear
You got the fear

I am going to play around with different words beginning with F E A and R which link to the message I wish to communicate to the first years.

Speaking from experience - What's a vignette?

A few tutorials and moving image pieces have talked about vignettes.  I did not have a clue what one was so found this tutorial explaining.  Basically a vignette creates dark edges around an image in a circular fashion. The effect can be used artistically to draw the eye of the viewer towards an object of interest that is somewhere near, or in the middle of the picture.

Speaking from experience - research

Going Solo. from Studio Botes on Vimeo.

This reminds me a bit of the approach Brian Cantwell used.  I think both are really effectice down to earth techniques which appeal to a broad range of people.

What is a line - Moving image research

Inspiration for what is a line video

This moving image intrigued me as it uses the sound wave to form lips, faces and musicians.  With more time I would have liked to have explored perhaps doing close up illustrations of the mouth and hands movements.  Really think this video captures the actions using just a line.

Born Ruffians - What to Say (HD) from Jared Raab on Vimeo.

I like the simplicity and composition of this piece which again explores a series of actions along a line.

Life Line - Életvonal from tomek ducki on Vimeo.

I like the idea of hand drawing a piece and recording each line as you go to produce a moving image.

What is graphic design for?

David and I saw an unsigned band at The Deaf Institute called The Watchers.  They have the ubiquitous Facebook page but they are also on a website called "bandcamp' which i had not heard of:

Band camp

Band Camp are Advertising for a Designer.  I read the job advert with interest but also confusion as I did not understand half the stuff it was asking for So I have researched all these sites below.  I think this is probably the most accurate way of getting a picture of What Graphic Design is 'today' and maybe tomorrow:

Gave me some ideas of the fast moving pace and expectations of a Designer today.
I had not heard of any of these:
